Frequently asked questions

7 Days Lemosho Route FAQs

Yes. While Kilimanjaro is a serious challenge, the Lemosho Route offers a gradual ascent, allowing more time for acclimatization. This makes it one of the best routes for both beginners and experienced trekkers.
The success rate is very high — around 85% or more. Its longer duration and steady elevation gain significantly improve acclimatization and increase the chances of reaching Uhuru Peak.
Most trekking days involve 4 to 7 hours of hiking. However, summit day is much longer, lasting 12 to 14 hours round-trip (ascent and descent).
The route covers approximately 70 kilometers (43.5 miles) from the starting point at Lemosho Gate to the summit and down to Mweka Gate.
Not necessarily. No technical climbing is required, but a good level of fitness is important. You don't need prior experience with altitude, though altitude sickness can affect anyone, which is why acclimatization is key.
Accommodation is in high-quality tents provided and set up by your trekking crew. Each night, you'll sleep at designated mountain camps like Mti Mkubwa, Shira, Barranco, Karanga, Barafu, and Mweka.
Essentials include sturdy hiking boots, a warm sleeping bag (rated to -10°C/14°F), thermal layers, waterproof gear, gloves, a headlamp, and a daypack. Most operators provide a full gear checklist.
Public pit latrines are available at each camp. However, private portable toilets are often included or available as an add-on for added comfort and hygiene.
The best seasons are January to early March and June to October. These months offer clearer skies, lower rainfall, and better trekking conditions overall.
Absolutely! The itinerary can be extended to an 8-day version for better acclimatization or adjusted to fit your pace. Our team will work with you to tailor the trek based on your preferences and needs.
