8 Days Lemosho Route
The Lemosho Route is one of the most beautiful and well-balanced routes to climb Mount Kilimanjaro. It offers rich biodiversity, fewer crowds during the first few days, and excellent acclimatization thanks to its gradual ascent profile. If you're looking for a route that combines scenic beauty, varied landscapes, and a high summit success rate, the 8-day Lemosho Route is a fantastic choice.

Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, you'll be transferred to your accommodation, where your guide will conduct a full briefing and equipment check to prepare you for the adventure ahead.

Kaliwa Lodge

Elevation: 2,100m → 2,650m
After breakfast, you'll drive from Arusha to Londorossi Gate for registration. Then proceed to Lemosho Gate, where the hike begins through lush rainforest. This area is rich in wildlife like black-and-white colobus monkeys and forest birds. You'll walk under a canopy of trees before arriving at Mti Mkubwa (Big Tree) Camp for overnight.
Mti Mkubwa Camp · Overnight Stay

Mti Mkubwa Camp (2,650m) – Shira 1 Camp (3,610m)
Today's trail gradually climbs out of the rainforest into the heath and moorland zone. As you ascend, the trees thin out, and the landscape opens up, offering stunning views of Shira Ridge and Kibo Peak. After a scenic hike across rolling hills and volcanic rock formations, you'll reach Shira 1 Camp on the Shira Plateau.
Shira 1 Camp · Overnight Stay

Shira 1 Camp (3,610m) – Shira 2 Camp (3,850m)
A short trek across the wide, open plateau of Shira Ridge gives you time to rest and acclimate. Weather permitting, you'll have panoramic views of Kibo and Mount Meru in the distance.
Shira 2 Camp · Overnight Stay

Shira 2 Camp (3,850m) → Lava Tower (4,630m) → Barranco Camp
Climb steadily to the striking Lava Tower, where you'll stop for lunch. Then descend into the beautiful Barranco Valley for overnight. This is one of the most important acclimatization days on the route.
Barranco Camp · Overnight Stay

Barranco Camp (3,976m) → Karanga Camp (4,035m)
Climb the famous Barranco Wall—challenging but non-technical. Continue across alpine terrain to Karanga Camp. This shorter day gives your body more time to acclimate before summit night.
Karanga Camp · Overnight Stay

Karanga Camp (4,035m / 13,238ft) → Barafu Camp (4,703m)
A short but steep trek through high alpine desert to your final camp before summit night. Rest, hydrate, and mentally prepare for the challenge ahead.
Barafu Camp · Overnight Stay

Barafu Camp (4,703m / 15,430ft) → Uhuru Peak (5,895m / 19,341ft) → Mweka Camp (3,720m / 12,205ft)
Begin your summit bid around midnight, hiking in the dark toward Stella Point and then Uhuru Peak—Africa's highest point. After sunrise and summit photos, descend to Barafu for a break, then down to Mweka Camp for overnight.
Mweka Camp · Overnight Stay

Mweka Camp (3,720m / 12,205ft) → Mweka Gate (1,640m / 5,380ft)
Trek through lush rainforest to the park gate, where you'll receive your Kilimanjaro certificate. Your driver will transfer you to your hotel for a hot shower and well-deserved rest.
