The Rongai Route is the only trail that approaches Kilimanjaro from the northern side near the Kenyan border, offering a quieter, more remote experience with steadily rising landscapes and fewer crowds. It's perfect for those who want a peaceful ascent, enjoy wildlife sightings, and prefer a drier route — especially during the rainy season.
Despite being slightly less scenic at the beginning than routes like Lemosho, the Rongai Route makes up for it with solitude, success rates, and a dramatic final approach to the summit via the Kibo Crater rim. The descent is via the Marangu Route, giving you a chance to see both sides of the mountain.
